Irene was born in Haasts Bluff in 1959. She moved to Papunya with her family in the mid-1960s. This is how it eventuated that she went to school in Papunya during the period that Geoffrey Bardon was teaching there, the very one who will initiate the pictorial movement in the early 1970s. She also went to school in Docker River when her family went there a little later. Once married, she joined the community of Kintore where she found a job at school as an assistant to the teacher. She began painting in 2000.
