Awelye' is the Anmatyerre word for the women's ceremony and also refers to the designs applied to womenʼs bodies. The ceremony is womenʼs business and is never conducted in the presence of men. The Awelye ceremony connects the women with the land and with fertility. It celebrates the food it provides and also, for the land to continue to flourish.
